Dr. Ignacio Hernández is an Associate Professor and the Ed.D. Program Director in the Department of Educational Leadership at California State University, Fresno. Along with serving as the Ed.D. Program Director, Dr. Hernández has also contributed to the development and advancement of the Higher Education Administration and Leadership (HEAL) master’s degree program, taught organizational leadership, assessment in higher education, and educational statistics.
Dr. Hernández contributes to two areas of community college research. On community college leadership, his research seeks to highlight the experiences and lessons learned by leaders that may serve to re-imagine normative definitions of community college leadership and the social practice of leadership in higher education. His research on community college students and the transfer process examines student affairs practices that may advance social justice and institutional responsibility.
Ignacio is a proud son of immigrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico, and grew up in Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley. He earned an AA in Liberal Arts from Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), a BS in Mathematics, and an MS in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education from California State University, Long Beach. While at CSULB, Ignacio worked with the Educational Talent Search Program, the Educational Opportunity Program, and as a program coordinator with the College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics.
Dr. Hernández earned a Ph.D. in Education from Iowa State University, where he also earned a doctoral minor in Statistics. He is an active member in various professional associations and serves on the editorial board of the journal About Campus. You can follow him on Twitter at @Nacho_PhD.
