About Dr. Aguilar-Hernández

José M. Aguilar-Hernández is an Associate Professor of Ethnic and Women’s Studies in the College of Education and Integrative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona. He is the proud son of immigrant farmworkers from Zacatecas, México. He grew up in the Ventura County and transferred from Moorpark Community College to UCLA where he earned a B.A. in History and Chicana/o Studies. After working in student affairs, he earned a Masters in Latin American Studies and a Ph.D. in Education from UCLA. As a teacher-scholar, he has provided service and leadership in various transfer programs including the UCLA Center for Community College Partnerships, UCLA Transfer Summer Program, Cal Poly Pomona’s PolyTransfer Program, and the CPP EOP Transfer Bridge Program. His research publications and teaching interests include critical race theory, educational history, and pedagogy.
